Beschreibung WHEN THE THREAT FOLLOWS US HOME: A COP'S STORY (English Edition). There was a time, not so long ago, when it was completely unacceptable to be both human and a cop. After 9/11 and again after the Boston Marathon bombings, society’s understanding of law enforcement, the dangers they face and the psychological impact that creates progressed for a few years, but there was a gradual regression back to old expectations. It has become shamefully customary for many in society to view a law enforcement officer as a human being, only after they have been taken away from their loved ones.As law enforcement, we must do whatever it takes to make it home at the end of the shift. But then what? What about when we’ve made it home? It’s no longer just an issue of surviving the streets. Law enforcement is just as susceptible to life-threatening danger under the roof of their own homes. It’s just at the hand of a different adversary; an adversary that’s statistically claiming the life of another law enforcement officer every 3 ½ days. Law enforcement suicides now outnumber line-of-duty deaths by over double, annually. In 2019 alone, law enforcement suicides surpassed the loss of over 200 officers. For many years, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) was the “dirty little secret” of law enforcement, which nobody wanted to admit to or talk about. After the author's own life experiences, he made it his mission to stand alongside those in need and speak on behalf of law enforcement officers everywhere. The author's mission is to raise awareness for law enforcement mental health and begin open discussions in support of initiatives focused on law enforcement suicide prevention. One day, the author began asking himself what he could do to raise awareness for law enforcement PTSD, as well as law enforcement suicide prevention initiatives. He decided to illustrate the traumas that law enforcement face, every day, through a personal account of his own life, in the form of an autobiography. When writing my book, the author hoped that, if he made himself completely vulnerable to the scrutiny of the world, it would maybe give an officer the strength to tell just one person; to ask for help. By the end of the book, the author hoped that he could connect with his readers and show them that they are not alone. That there are others out there just like them.In a review of his finished product, the author found that he had written a book that was brutally honest; to both himself and his readers. This book ended up being as much as a reflection for him as he hopes it will be a message of hope for others. The author felt he couldn’t have done this book any justice, nor would it serve its purpose, unless he gave a true & uncensored account of the life of a law enforcement officer.The author's support, and the message that spawned therefrom, does not stop with law enforcement. This book is also dedicated to all first responders, whether it be firemen, paramedics/EMTs, dispatchers and their families. This includes our servicemen and women in the armed forces.We must work together to protect our men and women, who selflessly risk it all, in the quest for peace.
